Melanocytic tumors

Melanocytic tumors develop from melanocytes. Melanocytes originate from neural crest and migrate during fetal life into skin, uveal tract of the eye, brain, meningeal layers, and digestive tract.
In skin, melanocytes are situated between basal cells, in a rate, ranging from 1:10 to 1:5, depending on the anatomic site.

Melanocytic nevus is the benign tumor of melanocytes.

Malignant melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes.
